Here’s what I think…
The injustice: women are granted full decision making power when it comes to pregnancy. They alone decide whether to keep a baby or have an abortion. If she chooses to have the child she in no way needs the father’s permission…and on top of that the father will be required by law to provide financial support for the child for 18 years. Males are stripped of any/all rights when it comes to having children. They are reduced to sperm and money donors. If a man wanted to raise the child but the woman wants an abortion, he has no rights. She decides.
The fact that the State requires men to pay child support for unwanted children seems criminal. Does a fetus have more rights than a tax paying Citizen? To add insult to injury, men have no control over how child support monies are spent. Furthermore, falling behind on child support is a criminal offense, punishable by imprisonment.
It seems fair to me that before a woman makes the final decison to have or abort a fetus, the male should be consulted. He should have some rights. For example, if he supports her having the child and agrees to child support, fine. If he does not want anything to do with the child once it’s born, he should have that right too…the woman does. If he wanted the child and she didn’t, could the woman be “forced” to give birth then relinquish custody to the father? Should she then pay child support?
