When it comes to improving education, it seems to me we hardly (if ever) hear about parental responsibility. Successful education of any child begins at home. There are dangers in the current thinking that fixing education in our country deals only with school funding and teacher accountability.
Children must have a suitable learning environment at home. Parents must parent! They need to be actively and genuinely involved in their children’s education. They must provide structured homework/study time, reading materials (newspapers, magazines, books), and consequences for substandard achievement.
